The Complaint Process and Disciplinary Decisions.

Welcome

Making a difference!

The General Legal Council’s work is vital in the administration of justice. The Council bears the responsibility for the issuance and renewal of practising certificates. It bears responsibility for ensuring that all Attorneys-at-Law annually pursue some form of continuing education and ensuring that they carry professional indemnity insurance. Importantly, the Council is the venue where clients lodge their complaints against Attorneys-at-Law for resolution.

The Council believes that its work calls for transparency, and indeed the Act itself provides that while hearings of applications are to be in camera, findings/decisions are to be pronounced in public – see section 35(10).

For these reasons, a website is necessary for the Public’s ease of access to all information pertaining to the Council.
